OnlyFans free vs subscription pages: which model fits?

OnlyFans lets you run a paid subscription, a free join with paid unlocks, or both. The useful question is not “which is best forever,” but which model matches how you post, sell and chat—and how much admin you can keep up.

Free is not “everything free.” On a free profile, fans still pay for unlocks and tips. Mislabeling what an unlock contains is a fast path to complaints and refunds.

Paid is not “set and forget.” Quiet feeds cancel. Say in one pinned sentence what the monthly fee includes versus what costs extra.

Rough math for a paid page (illustrative): paid subscribers × monthly price × 0.8 after the usual platform fee, before expenses and tax. Free pages need unlock and tip totals instead—there is no automatic “follower × price” shortcut.

Running free and paid together

Some creators use a free page as the soft teaser and a paid page for the full library. Creator Center describes teasing on a free profile so fans know more unlocks on the paid one.

Only do this if:

The free page is actually engaging—not a blank billboard.
Branding makes which page is which obvious (names, bios, pinned posts).
You have calendar time for both.

If one page goes quiet, fans assume the other is neglected too.

Paid subscription with PPV on top

You can charge a monthly fee and still sell individual unlocks. Many fans dislike paying twice, so:

Keep the subscription price honest for the feed they get every month.
Reserve PPV for clearly extra value (longer cut, custom, live replay).
Say in the bio that some posts cost extra—do not surprise people after they subscribe.

Creators who advertise “no PPV” are reacting to that resentment. If you use PPV, be the clear alternative, not a bait-and-switch.

When to switch

Give a model a real try—enough weeks of consistent posting to see renewals or unlock rates—before flipping. Then:

Free + unlocks with lots of follows but tiny unlock revenue → tighten offers or move strong library behind a subscription.
Paid page with constant cancellations and empty DMs → lower the fee, improve the feed, or test a free teaser page.
Two neglected pages → collapse to one.
