If you sell photos, videos and messages that fans pay to unlock, OnlyFans is usually the first name you hear. Fansly is one of the closest alternatives: same basic model, with a few tools that work differently day to day.

OnlyFans in brief

OnlyFans launched in 2016 and became the big name in adult-leaning creator subscriptions. A lot of fans already know what “subscribe to my OnlyFans” means. That helps when you send people from Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X or elsewhere.

Adult content is a big part of the market. In August 2021 OnlyFans said it would ban sexual content, then reversed the plan within days. That episode is a reminder that one company’s rules can change.

Fansly in brief

Fansly grew fast around 2020–2021 as an OnlyFans-style option. Fewer casual fans know the name, so you may need one extra sentence when you promote it. Documented extras include more than one subscription price tier, people who follow for free, in-app discovery (For You Page / FYP, hashtags and profile tags), and automated or mass messaging.

Fees: what you keep

What that means for you: do not pick a winner on the fee cut alone. A $20 subscription is about $16 to you on either site before tax and any bank fees. Choose based on fans, tools, and how much work you can handle.

Fansly’s getting-started guide also says it does not add hidden fees for payouts, processing, or currency conversion on its side. Still check the payout method you use, because your bank or e-wallet might.

Payout timing: when you can take the money out

For cash-flow planning, when money unlocks often matters more than the 20% fee.

OnlyFans. New earnings go into a pending balance first. OnlyFans’ Creator Center says money usually stays pending for about seven days (their example: a tip on June 1 is available on or after June 8), then moves so you can withdraw. After you request a payout, Creator Center says transfers take about three to five business days, on average, to process into your bank or wallet (method and location vary).

Fansly. Official help says new sales stay pending for seven days, then move to Available for Payout. After you request a payout, Fansly often reviews it within about 48 hours; once processing starts, delivery commonly takes another 1–3 business days depending on method (Payout Processing Times). Many methods have a $20 minimum. Some options (certain SEPA or crypto payouts) need more.

What that means for you: on current help pages, both sites hold money for about a week first. Fansly is not automatically “the fast one” just because older articles compared a 21-day OnlyFans figure with a 7-day Fansly figure. People who follow for free (Fansly). Fans can follow without paying. You choose what free followers see versus what stays locked. That can warm up new traffic before a subscription. Give free followers a clear reason to upgrade; if the free layer shows the same material as the paid feed—or almost nothing—many people will not see the point of paying. Strategies differ.

How much can you earn?

Neither site publishes a trustworthy “average creator income” you should treat as a forecast. You earn based on how many people pay and how long they stay. Because more fans already recognize OnlyFans, that name can need less explaining than Fansly when you promote from Instagram, TikTok or Twitter/X. Fansly can still be the better pick if you will use tiers, free followers, FYP/hashtag discovery or Fansly’s automated/mass messaging—or if you need a second site while keeping OnlyFans for brand recognition.

Features worth caring about

Both sites have long offered: watermarking (helps if someone steals your content) and geoblocking (helps if you want to block people in certain places from finding you). Turn them on the way you intend in your own settings.

Fansly documents in-app discovery tools that OnlyFans historically relied less on in creator marketing. Fansly’s Creator Hub and Help Center describe a For You Page (FYP—Fansly’s in-app suggestion feed), public hashtags, private profile tags and a Suggestions tab (The FYP; Profile Discoverability Features). Posts usually need to be opted into FYP with accessible preview media.
