You go live from a room. Viewers watch in real time, chat, tip, and sometimes buy a private or exclusive show. The product is the live interaction—not a photo set waiting in a feed.

Sites vary in how “open” the free room is, how tips and privates are priced, and how much traffic arrives without your own promo. Standing out in a busy grid usually means a clear niche, a schedule people can learn, and off-site promotion where the rules allow it. An empty room on day one is common.

Camming can be:

Primary — most of your income and schedule is live shows.
Additional — live tips and discovery beside a fan page, clip shop or other work.
Seasonal — fixed weekly slots while you build something else.

Two patterns show up again and again. Many sites mix both; the main meter for your income is what matters.

Public tipping rooms

Anyone can enter a public room. You earn mainly when viewers tip (and when they buy privates from that room). Tip menus, group goals and apps that run tip games are common tools on this style of site.

Private-session-focused services

Here the free or public chat is usually limited. The main meter is paid private or exclusive time—often billed per minute in dollars or credits. You set (or accept) a rate, take one-to-one or small-group paid sessions, and cash out on that network’s schedule.

What to verify on those networks (do not invent a “typical %”): the live performer rate card or tier table, whether free chat is allowed to go nude, payout methods in your country, and studio vs independent rules. Some sites add fan clubs, recorded shows, tip toys or clip stores on top of live. Those are extras. Compare them after you understand whether your main income will be public tips, paid minutes, or both.

How to choose a cam site

There is no single “best” site. Use this checklist against each candidate’s current help and signup screens:

Keep two prices separate

On token sites, what a viewer pays for tokens and what you redeem per token are different numbers.

Chaturbate (verified):

Broadcaster redemption: $0.05 per token after age verification (100 tokens → $5.00), with pay periods spanning the 1st–15th and 16th–31st Mountain Time (convert tokens).

Labeled like-for-like example (Chaturbate wire path only): a viewer funds tokens by wire at $0.08 each. You later redeem those same tokens at $0.05 each. Of each $0.08 the viewer paid that way, you receive $0.05 and $0.03 stays with the platform and payment stack. That is not a claim about every payment method or every cam site—only this documented pair of rates.

Do not collapse that into a slogan such as “cams always take more than subscription sites” unless you show the same kind of side-by-side math for both products.

Ways money shows up on tip-heavy rooms

Suggestions (not guarantees): tip menus for small actions, group goals for larger acts, private minutes for one-to-one time, and—only if you want—selling items negotiated under each site’s rules. Watching similar rooms on your site is a practical way to set token amounts you can actually perform. Apps and bots that run tip games can wait until the basics feel automatic.

Third-party “average dollars per hour” claims are hard to trust without a method. When you plan, divide cash redeemed by all work time—not only minutes the camera was on.

Change any row and the result changes. Empty early sessions and slow weeks are normal while you build regular viewers.

Before and during your first session

Finish age verification before you treat tips as money you can convert. On Chaturbate, that means a government ID, a selfie, and the Independent Broadcaster Agreement; every person who appears on your stream or in bio media must be verified the same way, or you can lose tokens and broadcast rights (age verification; additional broadcasters). Using cam with a fan page

If you also sell a subscription or unlock feed, cam can be a second income stream and a place to show live work that many social apps restrict. It is optional—plenty of creators cam with no fan page, and plenty run a fan page with no cam.

Suggestions if you use both: keep enough time for paying subscribers; do not pitch an external page in every message; do not share personal details you would not share on the fan page (safety); announce go-live times to people who already follow you when that fits your schedule.

Linking rules are site-specific. A bio or social field is not automatic permission to promote every destination.
