OnlyFans restores Russian creator accounts (March 2022)

In early March 2022, after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and related sanctions, OnlyFans blocked creator accounts based in Russia, then restored them within days. The company tied the swing to payment-method constraints and said accounts would keep full functionality as long as payment methods remained available.

What happened
- OnlyFans disabled Russia-based creator accounts amid sanctions pressure.

Why payouts made it fragile
At the time, European creators commonly saw options such as direct/OCT transfers, SEPA (euro) rails and e-wallets. Sanctions that disrupt banking corridors can make a platform unable to move money even when it wants accounts open.
Other sites sometimes advertise Paxum, Skrill or similar alternatives. Availability is country- and moment-specific—never assume a 2022 list still applies.
Creators on both sides of the war
Ukrainian creators faced disrupted lives, displaced filming and appeals for subscriber patience when posting stopped. Follower’s 2022 guidance: do not cancel solely because updates paused if you can keep supporting someone whose income is a lifeline.
Belarus-adjacent creators also worried about sudden freezes after the Russia swing.

Geopolitics can cut payouts faster than you can migrate. If your income depends on one country’s banking path into one platform, keep:
- Exportable media
- A second platform that can pay you
- Off-platform fan contact where allowed
